Why spend money on paid clicks from search engines ?

| January 8, 2012 | 4 Comments

Paid traffic vs organic traffic, always there is a question on this, everyone curious to know that is really PPC campaigns works ?. Optimizing your website for search engines is an important step in promoting your site on the Web, however it is worth complementing your SEO efforts with a well-tuned pay-per-click campaign – in other words, get the most out of Paid Search.

PPC from Search Engines:

There may be at least 5 reasons to take advantage of a PPC campaign opportunity:

  • Get immediate results instead of waiting for feedback from a SEO campaign.
  • Although already ranked high at the SEs, you might also want to get more targeted traffic to overplay your competitors.
  • Promote some specific pages of your site (e.g. selling pages) that are not yet highly ranked;
  • Your business is season-dependent and highly competitive, and you want to receive targeted traffic during peak hours.
  • You are currently not advertising but your competitors already are.

There are many different PPC search engines where you can spend your money, the major players being Google AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing (formerly Overture), AskJeeves, Kanoodle, LookSmart, Miva and a few others.

Keep in mind that the larger the pay per click search engine (they will charge you more for your ad campaigns), the better your chances are for getting good traffic and scalable growing of your business model. Smaller engines provide slower feedback loops and some may not even provide quality traffic.

Before you start running a PPC campaign, make sure to do the following:

  • Analyze your business niche and learn who your competitors are.
  • Identify the search terms you will use in your ad (keywords you are going to target and negative keywords you should omit).
  • Learn how to write a good ad copy which result in a high click-through rate.
  • Work hard on the landing page that your ad links to – make sure your visitors do not navigate away from the sales areas of your site.
  • Think ahead about a tracking solution to help you track and analyze your PPC campaigns, prevent click fraud etc.

Personally I do recommend everyone to give PPC campaigns a try and check out the results for yourself. Please do drop your comments in the below section and if you have any questions please ask us at our SEO forum.
