If you are a web entrepreneur or a webmaster you definitely know the importance of the search engines optimization and also you might know what the key role of the on-page optimization. To make it even more clear I am writing this article on how a search engine will evaluate a web page. Search engines determine relevance of your page by breaking it into areas. Each area consists of elements, namely HTML tags. Search engines emphasize some of these tags and scan them for your keyword. If found, your page is considered more relevant.

The answer is simple – it contains the key phrase in all-important areas (HTML tags) within HEAD (1) and BODY (2) of the page.

How Search Engines Evaluate Web Pages :

An explanation of each page area follows:
1. HEAD area (<HEAD> tag). This top-level HTML tag contains one tag visible to the visitor and a few tags read by search engines only (so-called META tags). The most important tags are:

A. Title (<TITLE> tag). Browsers show the content of this tag in the window caption and search engines display it as the title for your listing. Its existence on the page is critical for getting high rankings. Naturally it must contain your keyword.

B. Description ( META Description tag).

This Meta tag describes what the page is about and is not visible to humans using a browser. It should include your keyword because some search engines may use it as a description for your listing.

C. Keywords ( META Keywords tag).

This Meta tag should list keywords related to this Web page. They must be comma-separated and include the keyword for which you are optimizing the page. This tag has little, if any importance for modern search engines deciding a ranking for your page, but we recommend that you keep it.

2. BODY area (<BODY> tag). This top-level HTML tag mainly contains the text visible to the visitor and search engines read it. Some of the most important areas of SEO include..

A. Visible text.

This includes the content of all tags visible to the visitor. This area is not an HTML tag, as we understand it.

B. Heading (<H1>Keyword</H1>).

Headings are generally the larger print on a page used to introduce topics. Your page will have a better chance of ranking higher if the <H1> tag has your keyword.

C. Link text (<A>Keyword</A>).

You need to insert your keyword into the page’s text and graphic links (ALT). This is one of the most important areas on the whole page.

D. ALT text (<IMG=”image.gif> alt=”Keyword”).

This tag is an attribute of the <IMG> tag. It contains the text description of an image. When your mouse hovers over it, the ALT text is shown as a hint. For some search engines it is an important area of a page.
